For instance, eating eggs, brown rice, chicken, lean turkey, vegetables etc. and plenty of water is a good way to lose weight and develop proper eating habits. Adding green tea to the mix won’t hurt you at all with a diet like this.

Now once you have an understanding of what to eat, and not to eat, the next step in losing the weight quickly is how you will eat. You have to watch the size of portions that you will consume. You cannot sit there, eating crazy portions of food in one sitting. Instead, you want to spread them out over the course of 5 to 6 meals throughout the day.

Also try not to eat after 8 pm. Most people prefer to not eat after 5 or 6, but you have to find what works best for you. Now I know some of you will say, “But what about the weekend when I go out?” You’re going to have to decide if that’s more important than losing those extra pounds.

As you can see the key here is changing how you live in order to get what you want. For instance, you are going to have to start cooking your own meals, because you can’t risk someone not doing it right.

Last but not least you have to start working out. You don’t have to join a gym, but you have to get three to four days of moderate cardio in for at least 30 min. weight lifting is also good, avoid over-training.

I would say moderate heavy weight for reps in the range of 10 – 12. And don’t forget to get a full night’s sleep as you need to recover and have the energy to do over again the next day. So follow these simple tips and you too can lose weight in two weeks.

It’s been said that what gets measured gets done, especially when doing something that is easily measurable, like your current fitness level. You can go down to your local gym, and get all pumped up about looking like a fitness model, or your favorite movie celebrity; but unless you have a workout plan, it’s very likely you will not even come close.

Here is what I usually suggest to clients I work with – I have them buy themselves a nice portable journal they can jot down their progress, plans, feelings and whatever else they would like get out of their head and onto paper.

Putting pictures into the journals can be very useful as I mentioned earlier as well as your goals for how you want to look and how you want to feel. This will help you when things become difficult and you feel like quitting. Anything worthwhile will challenge you and at times building health and fitness for yourself will become hard but its worth it.

We live in unique times, the main concern for people through the centuries was having enough food to eat. We live in a time where food is so overly abundant we are putting ourselves into early graves by digging them with our mouth.

How tight the band gets tightened determines how much food you can eat and how long it takes to assimilate and digest.

There there is the sleeve gastrectomy which is when a thin sleeve of stomach is created using a stapling device. The sleeve is about the size of a banana and the rest of the stomach , as crazy as it might sound, gets removed.

Many have had mixed feelings about their bodies after such rapid weight loss. One of the reasons is due to the excess skin that is left hanging due to the speed at which they lose weight. There is nothing wrong with that because we all need to first acknowledge where we are before we can get to where we want to go. However, it’s the questions people choose to ask themselves that cause them to start off the year on the wrong path, and they end up never rebounding from that bad start.

You know what? Forget it, let’s just wing it and see what happens”.

I don’t spend a lot of time on the particulars in this article, because the truth is whenever you wanted something bad enough, you have figured out how to get it done. Think about it, how many times have you already done that in other areas of your life over the years?

So before you begin, you have to get your mind ready. How you go about doing that is by setting a realistic goal first. If you are 300 pounds, its not realistic for you to get a six pack in 4 weeks, that’s just not going to happen.

Most people make this fundamental mistake, and fail quickly, because the expectation is out of whack. See what happens is a person decides they want to lose weight, in order to look good for the summer, so they weigh themselves and see they are 50 pounds over their desired weight.

Solution number two. Putting together the right nutrition plan is critical. Make no mistake, your diet is 90% of losing weight, and that has to be understood. Some people believe that they can eat anything they want, as long as they workout, and still get the body they want.

Well, if that’s how you think – your thinkin’ is stinkin.’ If it were that easy, everyone would look like a model. Your eating habits have to change, so that your body can change. Now with that said you don’t have to starve yourself, and eat foods that you hate. You can have good foods, that are good for you, and not starve.

Here’s a simple example of what I eat on any given day:

Meal 1 – 2 scoops of vegan protein in almond milk with 1/3 of raw oats

Meal 2 – 1 large apple with 1 serving of Brazil nuts

Meal 3 – 1 cup of brown rice with chicken and a bowl of green leafy veggies

Meal 4 – 2 scoops of vegan protein in water and a scoop of peanut butter

Meal 5 – chicken with a large bowl of green leafy veggies

Meal 6 – 1 serving of Greek yogurt

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water, I drink about a gallon a day

Now you may be thinking, “Wow, I don’t like some of those foods. Do I have to eat all that?” The good news for you is no, I picked those foods because I like them, and they’re good for the body.

You have to find out which foods you like, and stick to those. Now let me tell you what you cannot eat – fast food; and I mean any fast foods. Rule is if you don’t cook it, you don’t eat it.

Candy is also out. The exception is that after a couple of weeks on your plan, you can start taking a cheat meal, and have something sweet – but don’t go crazy. Don’t eat breads, pastas,ice cream, and cakes….. you get where I’m going with this?

And folks, once you have been on it for a solid two weeks, you won’t even miss all that crap. So again identify what your eating that has to go, and what you are going to replace it with; and start the path to good health and your goal.

Solution number three – work out. Interestingly enough, this is probably the easiest part, because if you aren’t really moving now, any movement is good for you. For instance you can begin with a nice walk 2 – 3 days a week for 20 – 30 minutes – simple as that.

Or you could join a gym and hire a trainer to work with you; or maybe work out with a friend at the park. It doesn’t have to be some crazy workout plan, it can be something as easy as this:

  1. Monday – walk for 20 minutes and stretch
  2. Wednesday – walk for 20 minutes
    1. Do 10 pushups
    2. Do 10 squats
    3. Stretch
  3. Friday – walk for 20 minutes and stretch

See that didn’t sound too hard, did it? Once you get used to that you could increase your walks, and repetitions, on each exercise. But you have to begin somewhere. You can also take up yoga; which is good for over health and wellness.

And again these are just some ideas to help you get started. Now you may have noticed that I gave you three weight loss solutions, but solutions to what you may ask. Solutions to one major issue many overweight people are dealing with – procrastination.

Now a lot of what I just wrote is paraphrased, because Bernard has his own way of saying things, but essentially that is what he was saying; and that hit home for me because everything he is saying is spot on.

Americans, over the past forty years, have become extraordinarily soft. We don’t want to hear about hard work, we don’t want to hear about discipline, and we we don’t want to hear about consistency, because that’s just too hard. Certainly there has to be a magic pill, or secret sauce right?

It’s why so many marketers on the internet, and on TV, make a fortune. They are using the fact that they know you want an easy answer, or quick fix, so they will sell you the dream on just about any product, pill or lotion that gets you a smidge of results. They will make it seem like the best thing on earth and sell it to you at a high price.

I’m big on basics in every area of life and I believe that basics, especially in health, should be reiterated because so few people are aware of them. One of the ways to ensure that you lose weight at a steady pace is by first focusing on nutrition. In the beginning  you should be able to lose weight consistently, especially if you live a sedentary lifestyle, then anything you do out of your normal activity will be a jolt to your system.

Some of the basics you want to stick to, as far as nutrition, are principals such as making water-based foods a large percentage of your everyday diet. Your body is made up almost entirely of water, so it only makes sense that you are eating live foods, rich in nutrient enhanced waters, such as fruits and vegetables. Te majority of the vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients you need to be healthy are in these fruits and veggies.

Water is another fundamental that often gets overlooked, and is replaced with soda, coffee or teas. The average person today drinks around three cups of coffee a day, and two glasses of soda a day. We are drowning ourselves in liquids our bodies have no clue how to handle, which puts stress on our internal system.

Not just to move, but move often. In the book, Move your DNA,” by Katy Bowman, she talks about how our hunter/gatherer ancestors moved an average of 50 hours per week; or around 3 miles a day. Movement doesn’t always mean distance, which is why they moved for so many hours, but only covered on average around 3 to 4 miles a day.

Movement meaning they walked , squatted, worked on things, crafted tools, build homes etc.. They moved around all day. Now I’m not crazy, I understand we live in a different time; and that lifestyle doesn’t really work today, however we can do our best to see how close we can get to matching it.

Easiest way to work toward that is by working your way up to walking three miles a day. It takes about an hour and easily fit into anyone’s schedule.

Get A Plan – And Get To Work!

Which is why I find it amazing that people in this day and age, still don’t take the daggum information and actually use it. With all the articles and videos available on the internet, there are still countless people who wake up and go to the gym with absolutely no workout plan.

You would think that having a workout plan is the most basic step on your journey to creating a whole new you and yet a high percentage of people kind of just wing it, or go by feel.

Ever been in a gym and just observe some of the stuff that goes on in there? Although it’s no laughing matter, the things people do at the gym can be downright funny at times. When you see certain things, you can tell that the person you are looking at came in unprepared.

What kind of things? Doing things like coming in, and upon entering without any real warm up, and immediately begin banging out a few reps, and sets, of a chest exercise. Then, for apparently no reason, the same person starts a set of bicep curls. After that, they might do an ab machine and end with lat pull downs. Huh?

A Well Thought Out Workout Plan Saves Time

Essentially, what this person did was successfully accomplish nothing. Now I’m not taking shots at people, I’m simply stating the truth of some of the things I have seen at the gym. To some degree you can’t fault them for doing such things; and the reason I say that is because with so much information out there, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by information overload.

What tends to happen once you get overloaded is that you also get frustrated with so many conflicting beliefs, training systems, regimens and strategies that your attitude toward all this can very easily become something like, “to heck with all of this confusing information. I’m just going to start and do some of the machines or some free weights and see how it feels and go from there.”

Although I applaud people for taking action, simply because so few do these days, and even though you can get results by doing the wrong thing, it’s still not the best approach. You can run south with enthusiasm, and a positive attitude, but if your goal was to reach Canada from New York, then regardless of how pumped up, and excited, you are, you’re just going to end up lost and very upset  – somewhere in Florida!

Going into the gym without a workout plan is just like the example I just gave. You can be pumped up, fired up and super excited, but without a proper strategy, and plan designed to get you where you want to go, then you’re just spinning your wheels.

Trust me, we have all been there at one point, or another, so take it from me when I say your best bet is to always be surgical in your approach. When you’re surgical, you don’t end up wasting as much time, you get faster results and you do it in a more efficient way.

  3. How many reps and sets will be sufficient?
  4. How much rest should I take between sets, and how many exercises should I be doing per muscle group?

As you can see, there are many things to consider before creating your workout plan; but at least these type of questions give you a direction to point in, so you have a target to aim at when starting your program design.

Having the discipline, consistency, and ability to attack each training session with intensity is the difference maker between fat loss workouts that end up doing nothing more than wasting time at the gym, or those that show results.

Let’s get into it by starting with the basics. It’s hard to take calculus when you are getting beat up by basic math, so first things first – you have to make sure you are in a caloric deficit. If fat loss is the goal, then you want to work on coming in around 300-500 calories below your resting metabolic rate; aka: daily caloric intake maintenance.

There are many free sites you can find that will approximate what your maintenance levels are. Knowing these numbers helps with the measuring process. Measuring your progress on a regular basis keeps you engaged, and accountable, to your desired outcome.

One of the best ways, I find, that helps with fat loss is using the method known as “intermittent fasting.” Now you don’t need to utilize Intermittent fasting to get fat loss results, because there are many different ways to skin a cat, but in my experience intermittent fasting helps me lose weight without over-thinking the whole process.

Intermittent fasting works on intervals of time where the longest period of time, say 16 hours, is meant for drinking water only; or resting (sleep). The other eight hours of the day, you’re allowed to eat. This 8-hour period is known as a “window.”

You really need to go out of your way to go into a surplus of calories in an eight hour period; if you are eating the right foods. Normally I will end up in a caloric deficit by a couple of hundred calories. That’s just one strategy, out of many, that work; however, I would recommend you give it a try, and see if it fits your lifestyle.

I want to give you a few staples, or principles, that you will want to follow to help expedite the process:

  1. Protein is crucial to building muscle, and burning fat, so you are probably going to want to have around .77 grams of protein per pound of your bodyweight.  The science behind how much protein you should be taking has not been fully mapped out yet, and there are many different views; with some stressing .36 grams per pound of bodyweight as the perfect amount to take, while others believe some should go as high as 1 ½ grams of protein per body weight.

I’m not sure it makes sense to put that kind of workload on your liver; forcing it to work hard to metabolize all that protein So to be on the safe side, I choose to stick with the.77 grams; it should be enough to give your the muscle building kick in the butt you need – but again, I’m not an expert, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

  1. Consume as little sugar as possible because it gets stored as fat
  2. Try to have no carbs after 6pm so your body can deplete glycogen stores as you sleep, and;
  3. Consume plenty of water based foods sticking with leafy greens as much as possible.

When putting together your training program, keep in mind that the idea is to set it up in a such a way so that you are priming your body to burn fat. Eating, with some of the tips I mentioned, will help, but just as important is the movement program you put into place; and the exercises you choose to place within that movement program.

When focusing on fat loss workouts you want mix the training up between weight training, and aerobic training, such as walking for an hour. The weight training that has worked really well for many of my clients has been the programs I designed around compound movements.

I really like compounds movements because just one of these movements requires that you activate multiple body parts at one time. This kind of training gives you the most bang for your buck. Lifts such as the bench press, squat, deadlift, overhead press and bent over row. It also doesn’t hurt to sprinkle some pull ups, and/or dips in there as well, if you are strong enough to do them.

Those lifts done three days a week, around a schedule like Monday/Wednesday/Friday, or Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday, is enough to help build muscle, and strength, and in the process – burns more fat.

Remember, we mentioned measuring your progress earlier, so during this program, it makes sense to keep a log of your progress, so you know how many reps, and sets, you have done; as well as the weight increases you worked your way through as well.

Keeping the reps low to help build strength, and muscle, faster. The more weight you can lift, the more muscle you build, and the time you spend working on muscle, helps to burn away your fat storage as well.

Finally, let’s quickly talk about aerobic training and burning fat. Working out early in the morning, when you first wake up, and your glycogen stores are depleted, causes your body to burn fat; because it has nothing else to fuel itself itself with

It’s seen as ineffective, or too “old school.” I think the old ways, in many instances, is the best way to go.  Walking in the morning, at a nice steady pace, either on a treadmill with a slight incline, or on varying street terrain, forces your body to rely on your aerobic system; and not the anaerobic system, which tends to be used under intense cardio.

When using the aerobic system, the body reaches into stored fat for energy, which is exactly what we are aiming for. It should be done daily 45- 60 minutes, bright and early, with weight training being done in the evening, three days a week so your workouts are spaced out for recovery.

Although weight training is definitely one of the best ways to melt fat away, it can be too far advanced a program for some people, who haven’t built up the necessary base layer of strength, and mobility, needed to handle the excess resistance of heavy weight.

In my opinion, at least in the beginning, the workouts needed to burn excess weight at a high level comes from bodyweight training. I am a big believer in what I call freedom movements, which are maneuvers that are natural to perform, but have become difficult for most people due to our reluctance to move our bodies on a regular basis.

The three freedom movements I’ve noticed that cut fat with regularity, if performed with enough intensity, are bear crawls, crab walks, and the inchworm. What is amazing is that these freedom movements were what we did for fun on the playground for hours, with what seemed to be very little effort.

Our ability to do these movements decreases as we get older, and become boring adults. When we get older, we get away from the idea of playing due to hectic schedules and rush rush lifestyles. We become more “sophisticated” and no longer call it play, instead, choosing to perform isolated exercises.

We head to the gyms and ask personal trainers their opinion on the best workouts for our body type and size. We’re then fed some sterile generic program that is a one size fits all plan which may or may not work. The issue with that kind of generic type program is it lacks the move variances required to make the body continue to learn and adjust to new adaptations – which is exactly what triggers your body to shed that unwanted fat.

What most people fail to realize is that it’s not just about knowing what workouts to use to shed weight, it’s about the variances at which you do them. For example if you take someone who walks for 60 minutes on a treadmill for four weeks, and match them up with another who also walked 60 minutes, but instead takes his/her walk outside onto the trails of the local park; what you will find, all things being equal, is that the person who walks the trails will have burned more fat than the person walking the treadmill.

The reason for this lies in the movement variances the trail walker experienced. He or she had to walk up and down through all sorts of varying terrain causing his/her body to always have to adapt to the multitude of stimulus in the environment.

That constant change of pace, terrain, and difficulty will cause the body to adapt by burning the extra fat so that it can better handle the new tasks you have been giving it. This is why freedom movement work so effectively. You are using a variety of muscles simultaneously, over varying distances, and speeds, causing your body to make the adaptations it will need to handle this new stimulus over time.

You don’t need a Harvard degree in biomechanics, or nutrition, to shed unwanted fat; and that’s the great news. All you need is a desire to want to make lasting change in your life, and the grit to see it through.

With the basic information I gave you, as well as the three natural movements you now have, should be more than enough to get you well on your way to losing unwanted weight and taking charge of your life. It doesnt mean you have to stay stagnant with these particular moves either. Once you get to the point you have effectively mastered, or at least handle, those exercises with ease, you can get excited about moving on to bigger and better movements.

There are plenty of natural movements to work on, and master, over time, which will prevent you from being bored. This tends to happen often at gyms when stuck on a routine for long periods of time. This gives you ample time to allow your body to make the necessary adjustments to this new movement. See, life isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon; and slow and steady wins the race. Continue adding additional freedom movements as you get more coordinated, greater mobility, and stronger in the time or distances you are working.

Have fun with it, don’t be too rigid or particular about how long or how far you should exercise for. Consider it “playing,” and you will find that these three workouts burn fat with enough variety, excitement, and fun to keep you busy for quite some time.

Trust me, I understand it’s much easier to look for the best workout then it is to eat a high amount of fruits, vegetables, drink plenty of water, and work a fitness program on a consistent basis.

What’s interesting is we all, on some level, have an idea of what we need to do to get the results we are after. All this fat loss science has been studied, researched, and documented over the last 30 years, that just about anyone can lose weight, and get in relatively good shape, with the surface knowledge they already have.

So the real question isn’t what is the best fat loss workout, but why isn’t everyone doing what they already know? This is internal territory that is uncharted to most. The key is to star at the most basic level, and work your up towards mastery – one rung at a time. One of the best ways to make this happen is looking for fundamentals, things that always work, and then working those fundamentals over and over again.

Even if you don’t have state of the art equipment, or the best strategies, but you attack with the right mindset and perspective, you cannot help but succeed. You will burn more fat, and lose more weight, with a better paradigm and consistent work rate, then you would trying to learn all the latest, and greatest, workouts.

Do you remember not too far back, the idea that you needed to reduce fat intake to be able to lose weight, and stay healthy? Funny enough, the idea is still hanging on in society, even though science has totally disproven this nonsense.

You can walk into any supermarket today, and pick up a can of something with “Fat Free” written on the front. You can see “Reduced Fat” all over the place, or you can see percentages next to words like “fat free” – 80% Fat Free!

All this reduced fat stuff becomes an issue when you’re knee-deep in a diet that dies nothing to promote a healthy inner environment. I know food has become more than something we see as fuel, but here’s the thing – if you do not change your outlook, then you will continue to be bamboozled by Grade-A marketing, that will only get you to send more on products that do nothing but make you weaker, and sicker, on the inside.

Have you ever heard the saying, “If you keep doing what everyone does, then you’re going to get what everyone else has?” Well guess what? Almost 80% of the U.S. is overweight today. If you keep doing what most people do in America today, you’re going to get the same results they get. The only question you need to ask yourself at that point is, “Is that what I really want?”

If the answer is no, then you’re going to have to do something different. The first thing I suggest is to stop thinking in terms of reduced fat products, or fat free products – forget all that. Instead focus on adding more whole foods to your diet. What are whole foods? These are foods that are as close to natural as nature intended.

Pineapples in a can is not a whole food. Why? Because it’s in a can! It’s processed, and is now, for all intents and purposes, a non-food. A whole food would be a pineapple you buy at the supermarket, in it’s original form.

So buy food in it’s original form, and you’ll be just fine. “How about a cracker, can I buy crackers?” Can you buy it in it’s original form? No, want to know why? Because a cracker is a non-food that was created by man, for man.

Same goes for bread. I get a lot of religious folks tell me that bread was used in the stories from the bible, which means we were meant to eat bread. First of all, the bread they eat in those times looked, and tested nothing like the stuff we have on ur supermarket shelves. If they did eat bread, which I’m sure they did, it looked something along the lines of sprout bread, which you can find at most health stores.

Have you ever eaten sprout bread? If you have, you know it tastes like freshly baked cardboard. This is why many nutritionists will tell you to toast it before eating it. Toasting it actually makes it edible, and gets even better when you add almond butter spread to it – but on it’s own, tastes like crap.

On the whole (pun intended) we are not supposed to be eating this kind of food on a regular basis. Bread is a processed food. We want to stay away from non-foods as much as possible. Most liquids are processed. They have to be or else they would spoil easily. Milk, organic or not, is processed.

Speaking about organic, did you know you can buy organic food that is processed, and is probably not a good idea for the body? Think about it – organic fig newtons. They taste awesome, don’t they? What’s the whole food found behind this non-food? That’s right – a fig.

Have you ever eaten a fig right off the tree? They taste phenomenal! Sure they aren’t as good as a fig newton, but the body has a much easier time turning that food into energy, then it does trying to figure out how to break this processed food down into workable energy it can use.

When you realize just how much of what we eat is processed, you start to see why we have so many issues with our health. The body was meant to process natural foods and meats. The body is at a disadvantage when you feed it pizza, hamburgers, and milk shakes on a regular basis.

Interestingly enough, the body does need fat to work at high levels – but this is what’s known as “good fat.” I’m not going to dive into the science behind it, but you can find this kind of fat in avocados, oils, nuts, and butters.

If you take a step back you’ll realize that some of these are processed, but the end product is not a far leap from what the whole food’s original form. Take a look at the ingredients in a pack of fig newtons, and then take a look at the ingredients found in raw almond butter – it’s a world of difference. One has at least five lines of stuff you have a hard time trying to pronounce, and the other might have three or four ingredients in the whole jar.

With health, as it is in life, there is no white or black – there are many shades of gray. You need to know what the principles are first, before you can start playing around in that gray area. So to be able to do the things I like doing, I need to be in shape. Another reason why I do things like box, is because there’s a beast deep inside you, at least there is in me, and I need to let that thing out every now and then. The stress, from life, builds up; and there’s no better way to let it out then to either beat the crap out of someone, or have someone beat the crap out of you – either way, you’re going to be winging, and working your body – so the tension gets released.

First up is mind set. The reason you have a have a belly is because somewhere in time you were slipping. Now before you pull the plug on reading this because you believe I’m into this mushy-psyche-babble crap that we’re inundated with today, I’m going to ask that you give it a few minutes.

When you’re overweight, you do not love yourself; and I say that because you’re always conscious of how you look, and especially how you look to other people. When I was twenty pounds overweight as an adult, I was in such a bad place mentally, I even stopped caring how I looked to others. It wasn’t until I got out of my own mental space that it dawned on me how bad I looked, and how bad I felt because I was so heavy. When I was over fifty pounds as a teenager it was even worse, so when I say something like “fat people don’t love themselves,” I’m not saying flippantly.

I have a couple of friends who are some of the most mentally tough people I know, and I know that when they put their minds to something they can lose all the weight relatively quickly; but for whatever reason they decide to stay heavy; and even they make all kinds of excuses for themselves when people point out their weight. These are people who will tell you to go fly a kite if they don’t like the way you’re coming across to them, and even they get all bent out of shape about how they look at times.

If it really didn’t matter to them they would not be wasting any mental time in it, savvy? So first it’s becoming consciously aware of where you are currently with your outlook on being heavy. If it doesn’t matter to you, then you will not lose any weight – period, end of story. However, if you can honestly say that it does bother you, then it’s time to make some changes.

Second is to understand where you are physically. If you aren’t able to do certain movements, like touch your toes, do a pull-up, or perform 20 push-ups, you now have goals you can put on your list. See, you need to have a goal list. Most people say they want to lose arbitrary number that came from the sky that’s not based on anything other than the fact they like the way it sounds. In most instances, that number is based off the weight they see on a scale; and that’s probably one of the worst numbers you can use to determine your weight loss goals.

It’s highly likely that you can lose a pants size and not see much change on your scale; and yet many people will see themselves as failures, not realizing how much they have really progressed.

The third thing we need to realize is that what you eat is going to have a major effect on where your body goes. If you keep eating crappy food, then you are not providing the body with the proper fuel it needs to give you the performance you need to be able to do all the movements that cause even more fat burning to occur.

It seems like a confusing process, and that’s because we’re inundated with misleading information, and we’re also used to faking ourselves out by using the endless amount of equipment, diets, and supplements available today that “burn fat” fast. Deep down we know that what we eat, and how we move regularly, is really going to create the biggest bang for our buck, but that requires effort – and one of the beefs I have with America today is how soft we’ve become as a nation. The work ethic has become a thing of the past. We no longer want to work as hard as we can to make things happen today.

And all I’m saying is this – if you get the right information, and you combine that with the right mindset, and a great work ethic, then there’s virtually nothing you’re not going to be able to do.  The last thing is movement. This is going to be a tough article to write because I know I’m going to get hammered by health professionals, and by those who support health professionals. Knowing that, I’m going to take the hammer out of the bag early on, hand it over, and allow them to swing away.

Here we go – I do not believe you should put your long-term health in the hands of medical weight loss doctors – period, end of story. I know, it makes no sense coming from me – I’m biased, right? I mean, I’m writing this on my own website, and doling out information for the betterment of my own finances, wouldn’t you say that’s right?

Well, to be 100% transparent – it’s absolutely right. I am biased, and I do believe I can help someone more than a medical weight loss doctor can, because I have the results to prove it. See, here’s the thing – I respect doctors, and the study, and training, they have gone through to be able to provide the services they provide.

However, with that being said, I believe, like most other professionals, they are invaluable in certain settings, and absolutely unreliable in others. Would you use a lawyer to file your taxes properly? Probably not. Would you hire a roofer to take care of an issue you have with your boiler? Why bother, right?

If you answered no to those questions, let me ask you one more – doctors have been around forever, so how does it make sense that what they teach today is effective, when they were already practicing medicine while this obesity epidemic was taking place?

The obesity rate rose on their watch, yet we’re supposed to believe that what they have to offer is actually going to help us now? I can remember doctors telling my father to switch from butter to margarine because butter was going to clog his arteries and increase the chances of him having a heart attack.

They never told him why the butter was going to clog his arteries, which had to do with the rest of the crap he was eating on a regular basis. Had he decided to make some global changes to his diet, he would have been fine using butter on occasion.

See, the information to help us live super healthy, has been around for many years, and yet doctors were totally clueless about it. The reason is simple – doctors are trained to deal with symptoms, and not the cause.

In some unconscious way, maybe it’s because there is a job security thing going on there. I know that sounds bad, and I probably shouldn’t write it, but I mean – hey, you never know! If they deal with the cause there wouldn’t be as many sick people as there are today. If there aren’t that many sick people, then we do not need as many doctors to take care of people who aren’t sick, does that make sense?

I know, it’s a silly argument . . . or is it? Who knows? What I do know is that doctors had their shot – for many, many years. Now that a new wave of health advocates have made their way to the front of the crowd, I see many “credible sources” trying to discredit them, simply because they do not have medical degrees.

The first line of treatment for medical weight loss is dieting (how’s that been working out for you?), exercise (how’s that been working out for you?), and behavioral therapy (how’s that been working out for you?).

If you’re overweight, haven’t you gone down this route on your own already? In fact, haven’t you reached out to “experts” to help you with these same problems – already? So what are these doctors going to provide, that’s really that different from what the other experts have tried? The answer is not much. This then allows them to take you into their second line treatment, which is what it’s really all about – pharmacotherapy and surgery.

Pharmacotherapy is treating the “symptom,” through the administration of drugs. In essence, “We’re going to fight the fat with these drugs that will probably cause side effects, which we then may need to treat with more drugs to make sure you’re ok, is that ok?”

No that’s not ok, and I hope you’re starting to understand that none of this is ok.  If the drugs won’t work, which they don’t for the most part, we then move into the last stage – we cut the fat out of you. I mean, this is just the most mind-boggling procedure I can think of, and yet people are having it done in droves today.

Heck, it’s even become a part of some insurance programs now. It’s possible to go have, what is essentially, cosmetic surgery done on you today, and only pay a fraction of what it would normally cost. Oh what a great country we live in!!

The reason, at least I believe this is the reason, why many folks choose this route is because they’ve given up all hope in themselves, and in the weight loss industry’s solutions to losing weight. When you understand that you don’t have to sacrifice anything to get what you want, you can begin to make some serious changes in your life – starting with your body.

When a doctor hands you a pre-printed diet on a piece of paper that looks like it’s been sitting in his bin for months, with things like “grapefruit juice and toast for breakfast,” I can understand why anyone would get discouraged. Doctors are great for emergencies, because in those instances you definitely need to treat the symptom. If I break my leg, I don’t want to go visit the local health advocate. I want you to take my butt to a hospital ASAP!

It also works the other way. If someone breaks their leg, I don’t want them coming to me for help. I don’t have the training or know-how to help that person, and I’m going to tell them they need to go to a hospital.

Doctors are important, and we need them. But we don’t need them to help us lose weight, because they have proven they aren’t capable of doing so without harmful drugs or cutting us open. I know that may sound harsh, but truth is truth. Many sources will tell you that medical weight loss, by in large, has a very low success rate.

The topic today is extreme weight loss, and it’s a topic that is on most people’s minds when they go researching for the best ways to lose weight online today. The reasoning is simple – it’s the sexiest concept out there.

Think about it, would you rather search for ways that methodically melt away unwanted body fat over an extended period of time, or would you like to lose weight in a week, and be your ideal body weight? The majority of folks want to eat anything, and everything, for years and years, and then want to be able to get rid of it all in a few short weeks. Ahh, to be blissfully ignorant.

Here’s the crazy truth though . . . it is possible to experience extreme weight loss in a short period of time. The only line that can be debated from that sentence is “short.” What is a short time period to me, may be long for someone else. Six months, for me personally, is a small amount of time.

Other people look at six months like it’s a huge block of time. It is that perspective that is going to be one of the factors that determines your success rate once you begin down a weight loss program.

If you truly believe that time period is just way too long to be successful in, you’re going to find ways to sabotage yourself at some point in the program. It’s a mind game, and that’s the thing about health and fitness, and in most areas of life I find, and that is the quality of the thoughts you keep in your head is going to determine the actions you take throughout your day.

I often talk about the fifty plus pounds I dropped in less than three months as a teenager, and that’s because I did it in such a short period of time. What I don’t talk about all that much was the twenty pounds I put on after my son Elias, was born. That weight was on me for almost ten years before I made a decision to get in shape, and stay in shape going forward.

Before I cover that. Let’s talk about being “in shape.” This is another relative term I guess. There are certain things, I believe, a man and a woman should be able to that shows whether they are in shape or out of shape. For example, I believe everyone should be able to run two miles at a normal pace, and feel fine when they’re done.

Now I never said they should be able to run two miles every day, because that’s a “fitness” conversation, not an “in shape” conversation. This may sound like semantics, and I guess that would be the case to most people, but I don’t think it is. It’s this lack of understanding that has everybody following the craziest fitness programs and over-the-top diet plans.

How can I make a statement like that? As a nation, we’re almost 80% overweight . . . end of conversation. Now back to being twenty pounds overweight for almost a decade. I was always a basketball enthusiast, yet for some reason I stopped playing basketball after my son was born.

I had created a belief that said, “You must go to work to provide for your family – and that means playing games is no longer an option.”

So I stopped playing basketball, and for the most part, stopped doing anything that had to do with exercise period. Once I decided to play basketball again, the weight came off incredibly fast. And to be 100% clear, I didn’t drop the weight because I looked for the fastest way to burn fat, or researched diets that work fast. It was because I decided I was going to move my body for a certain amount of time every day.

In other words, I believe I would have lost just as much weight if I decided to play hockey, baseball, or football instead. It doesn’t matter what you’re into as long as you’re into something that is going to get you to move.

Those twenty pounds came off in a matter of weeks, not months. When I was doing powerlifting a few years back, I got up to 200 lbs. – the heaviest I had ever been in my life. I also happened to be the strongest I had ever been as well, lifting weight I once only dreamed of.

Once the experiment was complete and I had the data I was looking for, I made the conscious decision to lose the weight I had put on.

Within nine weeks, I dropped almost thirty five pounds – without using foods that accelerate fat burning. All I did was play basketball several times a week. While I was powerlifting, I did not play basketball, or was involved with any kind of aerobic exercises. All I did was lift, and eat.

Most people skip the lifting and go straight to the eating part. If all they did was add a movement program to their daily routine, they would lose weight in 2 weeks, relatively easy. They would lose even more by month’s end. In 90 days, they would look like a whole new person – just with movement. Now imagine what you would look like if you added all the other pieces in addition to that?

I had a client that mentally checked out of her life, sort of like I did when I was in my “adult” mode after my son was born. She had a relationship she was miserable in, and like many of us do from time to time, she lost her way. She ballooned up to 200 lbs. and was not happy with how she looked and felt.

She came into my class and decided to get serious about changing her routine. She went from the rut she found herself in, to coming to class several times a week, and allowing her body to move again. Six months later, she was 135 lbs., and was starting a boxing class for the first time in her life – something she never thought she would ever do.
