On the other hand, being too stick thin is not a pleasant sight to see either. What you should aspire therefore is to get a good body shape. You can do that when you know how to shape up.

Know Your Shape

There are actually different types of body shapes, and what you need to do to either maintain or get rid of excess weight would depend on what you are.

You have the hourglass shape, which is considered as the most ideal. If you have this body, there are not really a lot of things that you should do. You only need to learn how to maintain your present weight and body shape. If you have an hourglass figure, your lower and upper body are proportional. You also have narrow waist.

You're considered to have an apple shape body if you tend to gain more fat on the upper half of your body than on the lower half. You have smaller hips and flatter stomach and chest.

Since you tend to gain weight on the backsides and your lower portions, most of the exercises are concentrated on the thighs, buttocks, legs, and calves. The simplest exercise that you can do is brisk walking for at least 30 minutes. You don't just get to exercise your legs, but you can also burn more calories. If you want to be still, leg raises and presses are ideal. You can also add a little challenge through incline walk or treadmill.

There are also those who are called rulers. The good thing about these people is that they are born generally thin. If you're a ruler, you won't have much problem with losing weight, since you tend to burn more fat than the others. However, it's difficult for you to build muscle mass. It's going to be obvious, though, since there is not much difference on the size of your entire body--from lower to upper portion.

As mentioned, you won't have any problem with weight loss, so any physical activity would already do wonders for you. However, you may have to develop more strength, so you can start building muscles. Most resistance and strength training exercises would be ideal for you. These include stretches, sit-ups and push-ups, crunches, and jogs. You can also perform bench and shoulder presses, as well as squats.

Watch Your Food

Any type of body is prone to develop fat, which can then distort your size. If you don't want that to happen, you need to be mindful of the food that you're going to eat. It's always best to stay away from fried, sugary, and fatty foods. They have high caloric content. If they are not converted into energy, they are stored in the body as fats.

Go with something basic instead, such as fruits and vegetables. If you need meat, chicken is better than pork while lean meat is more preferred than red meat.
