The Basics Always Work

Stresses such as divorce,  loss of a job, being overweight, and the list goes on. The week before the end of a year can be an exciting time for some. It gives the feeling of relief to the pains of the year past, and hope for the year coming.

There is nothing wrong with feeling this way, especially if you really are going to use it as positive motivation to start a new path on the road of your life. The main priority for many, at the start of a new year, tends to be weight loss. This is when people scour the internet for the fastest ways to lose weight; and build some muscle.

Many of these folks are genuinely surprised when they realize the results they get in their search queries, are of surprisingly low quality. Instead of solid “how to,” they find articles that have, “10 steps to building muscle fast,” or “the fastest way to lose weight in 10 easy steps,” and even “7 foods to avoid eating” – but nothing truly comprehensive.

These kind f article, and the sites you tend to find them on, don’t get down to the issue at hand; and instead, offer you band aid type of approaches. Theoretically these ideas, tips, and tricks may work, but without a solid foundation, end up being just nice sounding advice that nobody follows.

The Fastest Way To Lose Weight Is With Fundamentals

I’m big on basics in every area of life and I believe that basics, especially in health, should be reiterated because so few people are aware of them. I know basics aren’t sexy, or marketable to consumers, but if you really want the fastest way to lose weight you wont have to go too far beyond a few simple basics.

One of the ways to ensure that you lose weight at a steady pace is by first focusing on nutrition. In the beginning  you should be able to lose weight consistently, especially if you live a sedentary lifestyle, then anything you do out of your normal activity will be a jolt to your system.

Some of the basics you want to stick to, as far as nutrition, are principals such as making water-based foods a large percentage of your everyday diet. Your body is made up almost entirely of water, so it only makes sense that you are eating live foods, rich in nutrient enhanced waters, such as fruits and vegetables. Te majority of the vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients you need to be healthy are in these fruits and veggies.

Water is another fundamental that often gets overlooked, and is replaced with soda, coffee or teas. The average person today drinks around three cups of coffee a day, and two glasses of soda a day. We are drowning ourselves in liquids our bodies have no clue how to handle, which puts stress on our internal system.

These caffeinated, and sugary drinks, add pounds to your waistline over time if consumed regularly. It could potentially lead to stained teeth, and cavities as well. Not something you want to have; especially if you are looking to create a better image of yourself going into the new year.

Work toward the traditional answer most medical professionals suggest of eight glasses of water a day. If your glass is eight ounces, then that’s 64 ounces of water a day; which is far more than most are drinking today. As this process becomes easier, try and increase it to half your bodyweight in ounces. For example if you weigh 200 lbs., try and aim for 100 ounces of water a day. Like anything else worth doing, start slow and build up to high progressions in time.

You would be surprised at the results you have just by implementing these simple ideas. Instead of worrying about shortcuts, focus instead on basics; and hammer out the practice of these basics daily.

Last piece of the puzzle is shifting from being sedentary to motion; or movement. Constant movement is so important that even with a sub par diet, or nutrition plan, you could still find yourself losing weight, and getting stronger, because our bodies designed to move.

Not just to move, but move often. In the book, Move your DNA,” by Katy Bowman, she talks about how our hunter/gatherer ancestors moved an average of 50 hours per week; or around 3 miles a day. Movement doesn’t always mean distance, which is why they moved for so many hours, but only covered on average around 3 to 4 miles a day.

Movement meaning they walked , squatted, worked on things, crafted tools, build homes etc.. They moved around all day. Now I’m not crazy, I understand we live in a different time; and that lifestyle doesn’t really work today, however we can do our best to see how close we can get to matching it.

Easiest way to work toward that is by working your way up to walking three miles a day. It takes about an hour and easily fit into anyone’s schedule.
